PDRA Drag Racing comes to Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — Rev up your engines and get ready for drag racing this weekend at Beech Bend Raceway Park.

“We came to Bowling Green thinking it would be a good place for our second event of the year here for the PDRA Series,” says Tyler Crossnoe, Series Manager at the Professional Drag Racers Association.

An event that usually highlights drag racing but also attracts an influx of visitors.

“So the Beech Bend Drag Race is always busy this time of year and it kicks off our car show season,” says Bowling Green Area’s Nora Bryant. Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

“These events put us on a map with people who would never even really think about Bowling Green, their interest is drag racing, but then they come here and find that we are so much more than the event they come to, we have the restaurants, we have the attractions,” adds Byrant.

“We will see thousands of visitors this season entering and staying at our hotels, spending money at our local businesses and dining at our local restaurants. It’s just really great for Bowling Green and Warren County,” Bryant also said.

Those with PDRA like to come to Bowling Green.

“Coming to Bowling Green is very special for us. I grew up a few hours from here. It’s kind of like home, I raced here for many years, and I was able, to be able to come back and bring our form of drag racing to this facility. It’s very special, and we’re going to put on a hell of a show this weekend,” adds Crossnoe.

The Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says people come for one reason, but stay for another.

“You hear it all the time. Oh my god we’re coming back next year, oh my god I want to move here or they’re looking for a move for their business. And so these events really help promote Bowling Green,” says Bryant.

Drag racing fans can expect quite a show this weekend.

“We only see pro mods, we have two modded pro classes Extreme Pro Stock 632, Top Sporty Top Dragster is just a lot of bad fast door cars. They looked like a ’69 Camaro and a ’67 Mustang like you’d get back home, but they sure don’t ride like the ones that drive down the street. So you’ll see guys running three seconds, 200 miles an hour all weekend. Our show is only, I think, about eight or nine years old. Thus, being able to bring new era drag racing into an older model facility. It’s really cool, added Crossnoe.

Beech Bend Raceway Park is located at 798 Beech Bend Park Rd.
