Gangtok Hosts Literary Symposium on “Globalization of Nepalese Literature”

A literary symposium on “The Globalization of Nepalese Literature” was held today at the Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Gangtok. Minister of Information and Public Relations and Department of Printing and Stationery, Lok Nath Sharma graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Organized by the International Nepali Literary Society, the program had the special presence of eminent litterateurs including Dr. Gokul Sinha from Darjeeling, Shri Pragya Baba Basnett from Kathmandu, Shri Radhe Shyam Lekali from Kathmandu, professors, writers, poets, journalists and students.

Addressing the House, Minister Sharma explained the importance of the Nepali language and applauded the Literary Society’s initiative to conceptualize a highly motivating program to preserve, revitalize and promote Nepali literature internationally. He stressed the importance of learning different languages ​​alongside respecting the dignity of the mother tongue by all communities.

He referred to various government initiatives in the promotion of the Nepali language, including the appointment of Nepali teachers and assistant teachers, the translation and distribution of government notices in Nepali language, the writing of signs in local languages, etc.

The Minister also encouraged the students to be determined and dedicated to work for the promotion of language and literature.

He congratulated the organizing committee and expressed his best wishes in achieving the goals of globalization of Nepalese literature for the sustainable existence of culture and traditions.

Previously Professor, University of Sikkim, Smt. Pushpa Sharma gave a keynote address on the globalization of Nepalese literature after the launch of the symposium was announced by the President of the International Nepalese Literary Society, Sikkim Shri CP Giri.

The program also saw the presentation of a research report by Dr. Raj Kumari Dahal, Dr. TB Chettri and Prof. Rudra Poudyal, followed by an address by eminent litterator Shri KN Sharma during the technical session.
