Double perfection for Midland bowler

Matt Bradley, a 46-year-old Midland native, played not just one but two perfect 300 games on Thursday January 6 at Northern Lanes in Sanford.

That night also marked his all-time best three-game streak, 859 pins, which was 190 pins above his average of 669.

Bradley, who has been bowling since the age of 10, has been in the Northern Trails League for 10 years with his father, Tom Bradley.

Matt Bradley had hit a 300 before, but two in one night was a first for him.

“The last picture, I was pretty nervous because everyone was watching, and it fell on me,” Bradley said.

“You need a bit of luck and the pins have to fall. You almost don’t believe it,” he added.

When someone rolls a 300 at Northern Lanes, Bradley’s regular bowling venue, they get a high-five and are congratulated.

But the vibe of a second 300 match on the same night from the same person is a bit more special.

“Over the last 300 (game), I noticed every other person had stopped bowling and they were all looking at me,” Bradley said. “No matter how many times I host (nearly 300), I’m still nervous, that’s how I am.”

The crowd around Bradley erupted after his strike on the third ball from 10th frame to complete a 300 in the final game to end the night. Best of all, Bradley’s girlfriend, dad, and bowling buddies were also there to witness it.

“My girlfriend, Nikki, doesn’t often watch me bowl, but she came to watch me that night, so that was pretty cool,” Bradley said.

Although he is an impressive bowler, the main reason Bradley goes bowling every Thursday night is to spend time with his 76-year-old father, Tom.

“It’s pretty much father-son time,” Bradley said. “As long as he wants to bowl, I will continue with him for as long as he wants.”

For Bradley, bowling is his weekly opportunity to be with his friends and dad, but it helps that he’s also a hell of a bowler.

“It’s more about being with people, and shooting a good show is a bonus,” Bradley said.
