The hot and sunny weather of July 19e was a perfect contrast to winter for the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club (MLBC) “Christmas in July” charity event. Lawn bowlers dressed in traditional holiday colors, held fun games of lawn bowls and brought food to donate to Bracebridge’s Manna Food Bank.
MLBC President Jeff Shurie said, “We have a great time at our club and everyone appreciates the opportunity to give back to this great community. Our members have been very generous with their food donations for the Manna Food Bank.
“The Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club’s thoughtful and generous donation following the ‘Christmas in July’ event is greatly appreciated,” said Sam Robinson, President of Manna Food Bank. “The manna is entirely funded by donations, financial and food, so gestures like this allow us to continue to provide for the needs of our client families, who currently number approximately 500. This year, the number of client families relying on the food bank remained exceptionally high in the spring and summer, when a limited decline is the norm. Support from the Manna Food Bank enables our dedicated volunteers to continue to lend a helping hand to members of our community facing food insecurity issues.
The club held its first “Christmas in July” event in 2019. The members had so much fun decorating the club, dressing up in red and green and collecting toy donations, that they decided to make an annual event. After an enforced two-year hiatus, MLBC was thrilled to be able to host this great charity event again this year.
A Christmas-themed lunch was held after bowling at member Terri Follis’ house, where tongue-in-cheek prizes were awarded for some of the most creative and fun outfits.
The Bowls Club, located on the grounds of the Muskoka Highlands Golf Course, hosts various member events, leagues, community events and tournaments throughout the season from May through October. For more information, visit www.muskokabowls.ca, call 705-645-9767 or email [email protected]
