Best of Stanhope Elmore signs NLI with Emmanuel College bowling team | Sports

Stanhope Elmore senior Meghan Best has been bowling since the age of four, and now she’ll have the chance to pursue her passion at the college level.

Best signed his national letter of intent with the Emmanuel College bowling team on Thursday afternoon. When she did, she became the first girl in Stanhope Elmore history to sign a bowling scholarship.

“It’s very special to me,” Best said of signing and being the first girl to sign in school history. “It means a lot. I’m experiencing college and a whole new level of bowling with girls who’ve been there before. I’m thrilled to be with these girls. To be honest, I’m very proud of me. I’m very proud of myself. I’m very proud of the fact that the girls pushed me to become who I am today. They’re very supportive of what I want to do. Every time I’ve always felt depressed, they kept me optimistic.

Emmanuel College is a private Christian liberal arts college in Franklin Springs, Georgia with approximately 900 students. While touring and visiting the college, Best loved the college’s small size, which was one of the main selling points.

Many of the classes were smaller and the teachers were very active, which she says is a plus for her learning style.

“I loved how small the college was,” Best said. “It’s a small campus and I like small campuses. They were very cognitive and very open. They seemed quite open-minded and the teachers seemed very nice and involved, which is what I need. It helps me grow in class.

Emmanuel College is in NCAA Division II and offers a successful bowling program. Best will fit right in, as she helped lead a very successful Stanhope Elmore program to a fantastic end to the 2022 season.

Stanhope Elmore finished second in the state in the ASHAA Class 6A/7A bowling season this year. They finished second of eight 6A/7A teams that competed in the state championship and won the AHSAA South Region Championship the previous weekend.

After knowing her forever and seeing how successful she has been in the sport, Stanhope Elmore coach Bridget Wilson isn’t surprised to see Best sign at the top level.

“It’s super exciting just because I’ve known Meghan for so long,” Wilson said. “She’s been bowling since she was four years old and she’s chasing her dream. She practices sports. I’m super excited about this. I can’t wait to see her at the college level.
