Before 2015, test matches were only played in daylight. Test matches started early in the morning and the day ended before evening. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) allowed day-night test matches in 2012. Three years later, the very first day-night test was played between Australia and New Zealand at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. in November 2015.

So far, 16 day / night test matches have been played between different countries. All major nations participating in the test, namely Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa, England, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have played at least one day / night test. Ishant sharma holds 5th place in this list with the best bowling numbers from 9 to 78 in a day / night test. Bangladesh toured India in November 2019 for a series of three-match, two-match ODI tests. The 2nd test match during the tour was a day / night test. In the game, Ishant Sharma scalped a five-wicket booty in the opening innings after conceding 22 runs. Bangladesh were eliminated for just 106 in the opening innings.

India responded with 347-9 (d) with a century by skipper Virat Kohli (136). Ishant Sharma picked 4 wickets in the 2nd inning after giving 56 points. Bangladesh were eliminated by just 195 points and India won the game by one set and 46 points. In total, right arm stimulator Sharma selected 9 wickets for 78 races and won the player of the match award.
